    Poultry Science Terminology - X

    Xanthophylls: typical yellow pigments found in leaves of grasses and green plants that, once ingested by poultry, tend to darken egg yolks and add pigment to avian skin. Many people attribute the dark yolks of free range eggs to the insects eaten by the hens rather than from green plants
